- Annuity income, when appropriate
Retirement-account decisions deserve care
When leaving an employer, you may have multiple options for a 401(k) or similar retirement plan. Keeping assets in the former plan, moving them to a new eligible employer plan, rolling to an IRA, and taking distributions carry different considerations. A rollover is not automatically the best choice.
Required minimum distributions
Some tax-advantaged retirement accounts require distributions beginning at an age generally determined by your birth year, often 73 or 75 under current rules. Exceptions and account-specific requirements apply. Roth IRAs generally have no lifetime RMDs for their original owners. Consult a qualified tax professional.
